God’s Plans for You

Christians can miss out on the life God has planned for us in a number of ways. Each is a lie. Here are a few of them. And the Truth from Scripture. If any of these sound familiar, ask The Lord for a deeper understanding of who you really are. Then when the enemy attacks, use the Sword of the Spirit and quote the Word of God just like Jesus did in the Wilderness!

Take the helmet of salvation and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. (Ephesians 6:17)

a Lie

You are worthless.
No one wants you.
All you do is mess up.

the Truth

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. (Romans 8:34)

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:
The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17)

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.
The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)

a Lie

You’re not going to make it.
There is no hope for you.
Worry. About everything.
Especially money.

the Truth

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Jesus said: “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:31-33)

a Lie

Some people are just stupid and worthless.
Criticize them. Post snarky barbs on Facebook.
Complain to everyone. Carry it around in your spirit.

the Truth

For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:14-17)

With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water. (James 3:9-12)

a Lie

People don’t like you or care about you. Be easily offended.
Don’t consider others. It’s all about you.

the Truth

A friend loves at all times,
and a brother is born for adversity. (Proverbs 17:17)

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. (Philippians 2:3-4)

BOTTOM LINE: The Truth Will Set You Free

Don’t allow yourself to become so overwhelmed by disappointment, pain, and negativity that you miss the Blessing the Lord has placed before you. Follow Jesus and keep moving forward. That’s how we get to the Blessing of Living in Love.

“Then you will know the truth,
and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)
